It will be a historic day for the town as 150 soldiers from 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group march through the town during a special military parade, along with veterans from the Royal Engineers Association and led by the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers.
Residents are being urged to take to the streets and give a rousing welcome to the Army heroes when the Chilwell based troops will exercise their Right of Freedom of Entry to the Borough of Broxtowe by marching through Kimberley.
It all starts at 11am and old and young alike are expected to turn out to show their support. After the march a Drum Head Service in Hall Om Wong Park will take place to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One in 1914.
A spokesman for Broxtowe Borough Council said: “The march follows similar parades in Beeston, Eastwood and Stapleford after we unanimously agreed to confer the Freedom of Entry to the Borough of Broxtowe upon 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group in recognition of their outstanding achievements, commitment and dedication in the service of this country and as an expression of the high regard in which they are held by the council and members of the community.”
